Full Article by the Menlo Park Police News Flash

On November 12, 2009, 6-year-old Lisa Xavier was killed when a Ford Mustang ran a red light and crashed into her parent’s car. The driver had been racing another car and both suspects fled the scene. An investigation was immediately opened, and physical evidence and witness statements revealed the identity of the driver, who had fled to Central America following the crash. Officers and detectives continued to investigate and gathered enough evidence to present a case to the San Mateo County Criminal Grand Jury. They indicted the driver and a $500,000 arrest warrant was issued for him in 2010. Working with the FBI, he was discovered in Guatemala in 2016 and arrested by local law enforcement at our request. For almost two years, the driver has been appealing the extradition request in the Guatemalan court system. He lost his final appeal and landed at SFO on August 28, 2018, escorted by FBI agents and was taken into custody by the Menlo Park Police Investigators. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
